OUR TOP 3 DAYS OUT IN SOUTH DEVON.

As a family, we all love to be outdoors, I won't lie I'm a right home girl too but nothing beats that fresh, Devon air. Now Sienna is at school I do try to fill our weekends with days out, walks, beach days, baking and obviously some much needed rest time too but this blog post is all about our favourite days out.

Paignton Zoo

Both girls absolutely love Paignton Zoo, I try to make at least one trip every other month as Paignton is a good 45 minute journey for us, but I have come to learn that if we want to day trip we have to expect this journey living in such a remote area.

We have an annual pass for Paignton Zoo so combined it costs us £106.00 for the year, Olivia is free because she is under 3. In the cost of this we get lots of other perks for example unlimited entry here and Living Coasts, discounts in the restaurant/gift shop, fast track entry (amazing in the summer months) and 1 free entry into another of their Zoo's.

It's a fantastic day out, there are lots of animals to see, talks from the keepers, you can watch the animals being fed, fantastic play areas and a soft play (always handy for any unexpected rain).

The food is what I would deem average, the usual fast food options and it's ok, not badly priced and a good sized restaurant with an extended area at the rear for picnicers - we often use this area as my kids can be fussy and waste food which is a pet hate for me especially if I've paid for it!

Saltram House (National Trust)

We are NT members and we love all things NT! I love how these places are so well laid out, clean and well accommodated for everyone. Saltram gets a regular visit from us as it's about the same distance for me and my Mum to meet for the day. It is beautiful all year round and holds lots of events throughout the year - our particular favourites are the Cadbury's Easter Egg Hunt and Enchanted Saltram (this is when they decorate the gardens with lights and deck each room of the house out in a fairy tale theme.) There are lots of other things to do and see here, a lovely walk, a play park and a duck pond. It is really worth a visit.

Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park

This little gem of a place is where we have our big days out with the extended family, the kids absolutely love it here, they can run free and it's all quite contained. At the start there is a play park and a shop nearby, this is where we usually tend to have a picnic and the kids have a little play, we then continue round to the small beach, in the summer it is perfect for the kids to have a dip and many a time they have too, often in just their underwear as we haven't always come prepared! I always remember fond memories of beach days like this. There is a beautiful short(ish) walk up to the Folly and back down towards the house which we occasionally do but more often than not we can't get the kids out of the water. I have never visited the house, we've mostly ran out of time by then and once we are up that way we all tend to make a beeline for the cafe for a much deserved cuppa and cake! Oh, and if you do visit, you must take a walk around the gardens, they are lovely!
